One of the biggest questions parents ask when considering a UK boarding school education is: How much will it really cost?
Boarding school fees vary considerably depending on the school, location, facilities and year group. As a guide, families should expect annual fees to range from approximately £35,000 to £60,000+ per year for a full boarding place, with some of the most highly sought-after schools sitting at the upper end of this range.
Whilst this may initially seem a huge figure, it is worth bearing in mind that fees typically cover not just tuition and accommodation but all the meals,
pastoral care, access to school facilities and a whole host of co- curricular activities. However, the headline fee is rarely the whole story. In most cases schools charge additional fees for additional items and activities such as uniform and equipment, private music and drama lessons, school trips etc.
Depending on a child's interests and subject choices, these additional costs can add to a substantial addition to the basic school fees. Before accepting a place, ask schools for a detailed breakdown of all anticipated expenses so that you can budget accurately.
