Shrewsbury School has a world-class reputation for all-round excellence. Fully co-educational, with a seven-day boarding heartbeat and an integral day community for ages 13 to 18, we deliver a dynamic education that develops the abilities and enthusiasms of each and every individual girl and boy.

Founded in 1552, Shrewsbury School combines tradition with a vibrant, modern co-educational vision. We believe that our wide range of both academic and co-curricular offerings, combined with our strong sense of community and our ‘serious fun’ approach to learning, is the perfect way to deliver that ‘whole person’ education that inspires and empowers our pupils.

We are fortunate to be located on a beautiful campus-style site on the edge of one of the most historic county towns in England where we welcome 836 pupils on site each day.

Life at Shrewsbury is founded on a close partnership between staff, parents and pupils to promote the strength of family life, foster responsibility, and balance the claims of developing individuality with the needs of a vibrant community.

At Shrewsbury, we are passionate about the serious fun of learning. Academic life focuses on developing intellectually curious young adults who think critically and creatively, have the confidence to question and to challenge and are equipped with the skills that they will need to thrive at all stages of life.

This is complemented by the rich tapestry of opportunity involved in the co-curricular life of the school. Pupils are encouraged to develop their unique strengths and passions. With outstanding facilities and inspiring staff, pupils are nurtured and encouraged to reach their potential, regardless of ability or aspiration.

We want all our pupils, whatever their ability, to enjoy their life both in and beyond the classroom, and Shrewsbury has a well-earned reputation for academic, musical and sporting excellence. We compete internationally in cricket and rowing, and we are one of the strongest schools in the country for football, cross-country running and fives; facilities and coaching for these and a host of other sports including tennis, fencing, hockey, rugby and netball are excellent.

Our school plays and musicals have drawn praise at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and in London, and with the recent addition of the Barnes Theatre, home to state-of-the-art dance studios and drama space, pupils have the opportunity to flourish. As one would expect from one of the strongest music departments in the country, the breadth and quality of music-making is remarkable, and a number of students win places at some of the top music colleges each year.

We also offer our pupils an extraordinary array of clubs, societies and other co-curricular activities, many of which take place on a dedicated weekly activity afternoon. The majority are led by members of school staff. Shrewsbury is surrounded by glorious unspoilt countryside and the School makes the most of its easy access to the Shropshire Hills and Welsh mountains.

Shrewsbury pupils experience a home-from-home environment in which House spirit runs deep. Our boarders and day pupils enjoy a nurturing culture and a strong sense of community and family. With an array of House activities and competitions over the course of the academic year, Shrewsbury pupils enjoy an environment of mutual respect, encouragement and shared celebration.
