Rugby School Thailand
Genuine Britsh Education Located in the Heart of Asia
Introduction
Nestled within the picturesque countryside of Eastern Thailand, Rugby School Thailand began with a collective vision to bring genuine British independent boarding school education to Asia. The School believes every day is an opportunity to develop intellectually, mentally, emotionally, physically, and culturally. Rugby School achieves this through an extended school day with most students finishing at 6pm, a flexible boarding programme, and a holistic approach that combines academic rigour with an award-winning enrichment programme.
Rugby School aims to improve the outcome of every individual within the School and is privileged to enjoy a highly well-resourced 80-acre campus with an additional outdoor education centre and surrounding facilities that include hiking and biking trails nearby. These outstanding resources allow the School to focus not just on academics but also developing the student as a whole: in other words, a student who is not only academically able but also well-rounded. Thus, the overarching ethos that informs all the School does is 'the whole person, the whole point'.
Teaching and Learning
The school boasts a team of experienced leaders, teachers and counsellors who help students attain A-Level qualifications, recognised as the gold standard for university entry worldwide. All teachers are professionally qualified with at least two years of relevant experience, verifiable through impeccable references. All are UK or equivalent degree holders with postgraduate certifications, and many hold Masters' and some Doctorate degrees.
Most classes are set by attainment and ability and are delivered by specialised teachers throughout the school. A great example is that from the age of ten, all subjects are taught by specialist teachers. This means teachers delivering each class are specifically knowledgeable, well-qualified, experienced, and, very significantly, super enthusiastic about the subject they teach, which helps with understanding and, importantly, student motivation.
Parents as Partners
Recognising the importance of parental involvement in a child's education, Rugby School encourages regular interactions between home and the School. Parents often meet teachers at drop-off and pick-up times each day, and Rugby School arranges regular coffee mornings and other informal events to bring teachers and parents together on campus each term. Technology also plays a part in daily communication through a unique parent app that delivers key information and instant messages that keeps parents in the loop about the events happening throughout the school with a weekly roundup of what happened in school sent each week via a newsletter called 'The Rugby Post'.
Parents also have the opportunity to join the schools' Parents' Association' (RSTPA). This association regularly meets with the Heads of School, the Principal, and also the owners and founders of the school, which allows their community direct access to senior leaders and governors within the school.
Sparking Creativity and Earning Laurels
Rugby School Thailand encourages innovation and creativity in many ways, and the school has been repeatedly praised in inspection reports for how teachers integrate technology to enhance learning.
Recently winning the Innovation and Creativity in Learning award at the 2023 prestigious International Schools Awards (ISA), the School has also been recognised and accredited by several organisations, including The Council of British International Schools (COBIS), British Schools Overseas (BSO), Education Development Trust (EDT) and the International Schools Quality Mark (ISQM), Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA) and the International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT).
Scholarships
Rugby School Thailand recognises exceptional achievement, and students may enter the school as scholars in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12. Awards generally attract fee remission of school fees of up to 20%. However, an award's primary aim is to recognise and support a student's exceptional achievement.
Enrolment
Rugby School Thailand is a truly global school with currently 57% international and 43% Thai students in attendance. Curricula are delivered in English, with support available for students whose first language is not English. The School is selective, focusing on three 'key areas' to assess students for entry: academic potential; talents and ability in other fields, such as Sport, Music, Drama and Art; and qualities of character. Whilst a minimum academic and English level will be required to meet age-appropriate curriculum expectations, strengths in other areas are considered as the School promotes its ethos of 'The Whole Person, The Whole Point'.
