Millfield and Millfield Prep School for ages 2‑18 are leading co‑educational boarding and day schools in the UK, located in 400 acres in Somerset. Millfield has been named Co-Educational Independent School of the Year 2024-25, Millfield Prep was awarded Independent School of the Year 2022-23 and the school has been named the Best Sports School for the 10th time in 11 years by School Sports Magazine.
The schools’ size enables them to offer a diverse range of academic subjects, sports, creative arts and activities, supported by outstanding facilities including science centres, music halls, a theatre, art gallery, equestrian centres, golf and cricket centres and an Olympic‑size swimming pool. Through small class sizes, excellent teachers and sports coaches and individual tailoring, their aim is to ensure that every child can discover their brilliance.
Millfield Prep offers full and flexi boarding from ages 7+, while Millfield offers full boarding from ages 13+. Full boarders enjoy weekends filled with trips and activities. Millfield is home to 995 boarders from 75 different countries whilst Millfield Prep cares for 135 boarders from 27 nations, who share all aspects of school life.
Everyone lives by the school values: Be Kind, Be Authentic, Be Disruptors, Be Curious and Be Brilliant. Outstanding pastoral care is at the heart of everything, Millfield Prep launched the innovative Wellbeing Curriculum, educating pupils about mental health through a series of activities.
The innovative ‘Nine at Millfield’ programme is tailor-made to meet the academic and development needs of 13-14 year-olds in Year 9.
The initiative creates a supportive environment for students to really get to know the school, settle in and succeed. Learning is at the heart of the programme. The school offer a curriculum which stretches and challenges each young person to make learning even more inspiring. This is combined with an outstanding sport and co-curricular programme and a focus on learning in the outdoors - making the most of Somerset’s wonderful landscape. The programme is dynamic, diverse and engaging, connecting students with limitless academic, artistic and sporting outcomes by discovering and nurturing their talents and passions.
For Sixth Formers, the Futures department supports with guidance on various pathways, with specialisms in Oxbridge, North American applications, and alternative options. In 2024, 36 leavers went on to study at prestigious US universities including Standford, University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) and Princeton.
Millfield’s alumni include Paris 2024 Olympic gold medallist swimmer James Guy, silver medallist Helen Glover, England Rugby player Chris Robshaw and singer-songwriter Ella Eyre.
