Junior King's was founded in 1879 as the preparatory school to The King's School Canterbury. In 1929 the School expanded to a stunning eighty-acre countryside location located just two miles from the city. The 16th century Manor House has since been augmented by superb educational, boarding, extra-curricular and sporting facilities.
A leading co-educational day and full boarding preparatory school, pupils enjoy a happy and purposeful atmosphere where boarding is central to school life. Junior King's aims to provide a broad, healthy and inspiring education for children between the ages of 3 and 13.
The School has an outstanding reputation for academic achievement and scholarship. This is supported by excellent teaching and opportunities to excel in a wide range of team and individual sports, music, drama, and extra-curricular activities.
The Pre-Prep offers a high staff pupil ratio ensuring each child feels nurtured and valued and able to make the most of their school day aiding their development and learning before they enter the Prep School at seven years old.
The Prep school is split into three sections, Junior House, Middle School and Upper School. Junior House (Years 3 & 4) are taught in mixed ability groups with some specialist subjects but most lessons taught by an individual form tutor. In Middle School (Years 5 & 6) children leave the single class based environment and begin having specialist subject teachers. In core subjects such as English, Maths and Languages some setting is introduced. Upper School (Years 7 & 8) is divided into four forms for each year group with setting for Maths, English, Languages and Sciences (in Year 8) to ensure children are taught at a pace they can manage and enjoy success. The School ultimately strives to build confidence and maturity amongst pupils in all areas, giving them the opportunity to flourish in all that is on offer.
