Located in 200 acres of parkland just off the A303 in Somerset, the school is committed to providing the very best all-round education to the boys and girls in its care. Boarding is the heartbeat of Hazlegrove and as a result the school invests a huge amount of time and resources to get it right for children and their families. With around 100 full-time boarders, largely as the result of personal recommendation, boarding at Hazlegrove is thriving and a busy evening and full weekend programme of activities benefits both boarders and day pupils alike.

Sport, Music and Drama at Hazlegrove:

Sport is an integral part of the school day at Hazlegrove for all pupils from the Nursery to Year 8.  The grounds and indoor sports complex provide excellent facilities and all pupils are encouraged to join in and enjoy learning a wide variety of sports.  There is an emphasis on the development of physical fitness and co-ordination as well as skills and control.

Pupils play team games but also have the opportunity to pursue individual sports to a high standard.  Major sports for the boys are rugby, hockey and cricket whilst the girls play hockey, netball and cricket/rounders. Athletics, swimming and racket sports are also well represented. Teamwork, support, mutual endeavour and developing perseverance are all great skills for life.

The early years of education are the ideal time to instil a love of music and the arts. With expert staff and resources for instrument and singing lessons, as well as a dance studio and theatre, Hazlegrove provides the perfect stage for your young performer.

The school encourages pupils to try out different instruments to find out what they enjoy most, and give them the joyful experience of singing or playing in bands and ensembles together. Drama classes offer pupils the chance to develop a love of the theatre and explore their creativity with improvisation. The school wants all of the children to have the confidence to stand up and speak out in front of others, and for those who want to take things further, Hazlegrove offers the chance to prepare for LAMDA examinations.

The School’s history reaches back in time to 1519. As part of the King’s School Bruton Foundation, Hazlegrove is part of an educational lineage which spans nearly five centuries. A Hazlegrovian in the 21st century is a child that is empathetic, kind and connected to the world; one who is independent but knows that developing relationships and a sense of duty to the community are integral to a successful life.

The King’s School, Bruton Foundation comprises two schools – King’s Bruton and Hazlegrove – and offers the opportunity for a continuity of outstanding education for girls and boys from 3 to 18. The two schools are united by a common set of values and principles and bound by a shared history that stretches back to the foundation of King’s 500 years ago in 1519.
