Frewen College is an independent co-educational day and boarding school specialising in dyslexia and co-occurring specific learning difficulties for students aged 7-19.

This magical place provides excellent pastoral support in a high-quality learning environment to unlock each student's full potential and embeds the most effective evidence-based teaching methods, with assistive technology used throughout the school. Small class sizes mean that staff know our students extremely well, enabling them to adapt learning to best support each child.

A broad curriculum is offered with a full range of GCSE courses and a wide range of Sixth Form options which provide transition to further/higher education and careers. An extensive range of extra-curricular activities is also offered including sports, arts/crafts, games, Duke of Edinburgh Award and other outdoor education opportunities – many using our excellent facilities and 60 acres of playing fields and grounds.

Frewen is extremely proud of its reputation for unlocking potential in each student, leading not only to academic success, but also preparing them to be confident adults in an ever-changing world.

Our experienced and committed boarding team provide full, weekly and flexi boarding in a nurturing home-from-home environment - with activities on/off site and trips. Both of our boarding houses, Brickwall House (for boys) and The Warren (for girls), have a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where boarders truly feel at ease - and are located within the school’s grounds, where there is plenty of space to explore, play games and relax.

Our boarders have high levels of wellbeing and feel at the heart of the Frewen community, and the family atmosphere creates a fun place to be, where everyone can strive to do their best. We do our upmost to ensure that all students will leave our school as well-rounded, confident young adults ready to face the next challenge.

A newly released definition of dyslexia, developed through the Delphi Study, was adopted by diagnostic professionals across the UK earlier this year, and represents a significant and progressive step forward in how dyslexia is understood and supported.

Frewen is proud to be at the forefront of this development as our Headmaster played a direct role in shaping the redefinition as a Board Director of the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC). This involvement reflects our broader commitment to pioneering best practice in dyslexia education.

As part of this commitment, the college has introduced a new initiative which opens the doors of our small nurturing Prep School to students with literacy difficulties - even in the absence of a formal diagnosis.

This unique and forward-thinking model allows us to extend our specialist teaching approach to a wider range of learners. It also provides a vital diagnostic pathway, offering assessments for dyslexia and co-occurring needs through our onsite multi-disciplinary team, which includes specialist teacher assessors, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists.

In addition, our outreach service - the Frewen Advisory Support Team (FAST) - provides timely specialist advice, support and assessments to schools. FAST ensures that every student receives the right support, in the right place, at the right time. This service also supports families within the Elective Home Education (EHE) network, enabling children outside of formal schooling to access essential diagnostic services and interventions.

Frewen remains committed to leading the way in dyslexia education, championing inclusion, early intervention and specialist support that transforms lives.

Frewen’s most recent review in the Good Schools Guide reads: “Pupils are free to develop into the people they want to be. Staff encourage them to value themselves, and eventually walk, fully equipped, over the bridge to face the world beyond. What more could you ask from their school days?'
