The Duke of York’s Royal Military School (DOYRMS) has a very simple but ambitious vision of providing an all-round education with an academic focus. Offering an affordable option for parents looking for a boarding environment, DOYRMS is the country’s only full-boarding state school and is open to 11–18-year-olds. The School is based on an independent-style model with Saturday morning lessons and co-curricular activities throughout the week.
From the moment you enter the parkland estate, set on top of the White Cliffs of Dover, you will be amazed at the facilities on offer and the breadth of opportunities students can access. Alongside modern classrooms, there is an Olympic standard floodlit athletics track, a floodlit all-weather hockey pitch, a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning gym suite, an indoor heated 6-lane swimming pool, two climbing walls and a suite of squash courts.
Students enjoy a blend of academic challenge and an active lifestyle as well as the development of teamwork and leadership through our unique ceremonial traditions. The co-curricular programme encompasses sport, music, drama and other activities including the Combined Cadet Force and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. In addition to the Chapel overseen by our resident Chaplain, the School is fortunate to have a well-resourced medical centre and students profit from a hugely experienced pastoral team of Houseparents, academic tutors, and matrons across the 12 boarding houses.
As a state school, parents are only liable to pay boarding fees, currently only £7,110 per term (£21,330 per year, correct at time of writing). This inclusive fee covers full-boarding, catering, laundry and the co-curricular programme of 80 clubs and activities per week.
The School welcomes students in all year groups.
Sports Scholarships are available for Years 9, 10 and 12, and Academic Scholarships into Sixth Form are available to students who gain at least 8 GCSE passes including English and Mathematics, with grade 8 or above in at least three GCSEs and grade 7 or above in a further three GCSEs.
