City Junior School

North & East London
Residential:
Day
Gender:
Boys & Girls

City of London School for Girls and City of London School, together with Gray’s Inn, are delighted to announce the establishment of a joint junior school for girls and boys aged between 7 and 11 at Gray’s Inn. The school will open in September 2022 and offer automatic transfer for its pupils to the respective senior schools at 11+. It will occupy the former City School of Law building in Gray’s Inn in the heart of London’s historic legal district within walking distance of both senior schools. The pupils will be taught in modern, light and airy classrooms, but will also benefit from having access to the stunning historic buildings of the Inn, such as the Hall, and some of the beautiful green space of the Inn’s gardens.

Our junior school will be a happy, supportive and stimulating school, which will allow children to develop as confident and grounded individuals with a life-long love of learning. We will place kindness and compassion at the heart of what we teach and offer a modern, forward-thinking and academically rigorous education which will enable children to be creative, collaborative and independent thinkers. Our pupils will leave our junior school ready to thrive at our senior schools, equipped with skills, experiences and friendships that will help them flourish throughout their lives.

This exciting project represents the start of a new, long-term association with Gray’s Inn, and reflects the dedication of both the Inn and the Corporation of London to education. The school will share the commitment of both City of London School for Girls (CLSG) and City of London School (CLS) to working in effective educational partnership with all schools in the City of London family, for the benefit of pupils across the capital. This foundation by two such leading schools with years of experience in collaboration will result in an exceptional provision, drawing strengths from both to deliver a modern, forward thinking and rigorous education.

Rachel Thompson, the new head writes, “It is my belief that children should be well supported to learn to the very best of their ability, whilst at the same time being given the freedom to fully enjoy their childhood. At our school, girls and boys will receive a rigorous, yet rounded, education. A thoughtfully designed curriculum will provide many opportunities to create, connect and collaborate both within and beyond the classroom. Your child will be encouraged to ask questions, take risks and think creatively. Technology will be used judiciously to enhance learning, and sport and the arts will feature prominently in school life. Kindness and compassion, for self and others, will be modelled and taught: the happiness and wellbeing of your child will be at the heart of all that we do. All this we will do within the beautiful setting of Gray's Inn but with the full support, and facilities, of our parent schools, CLSG and CLS.”
