Brillantmont is the oldest boarding school in Switzerland to be owned and run by the same family. Since 1882, the school has offered internationally recognised programmes, enabling students to enter leading universities across the world.
It is in the centre of Lausanne, a lively city on the shores of Lake Geneva, in the French speaking part of Switzerland, just 1hr from the ski slopes. It is spacious with excellent, up to date facilities, including an incredible multipurpose hall offering a full-sized gymnasium and a 100m2 stage area. Accommodation is of the highest standard. Brillantmont has been fully accredited by NEASC and CIS for over 40 years.
Brillantmont welcomes students aged 13-18, from around 30 different countries into Grades 8-12 (UK Years 9 -13). Teaching is in English, but all students learn French, the local language. Students follow a British IGCSE / A Level or an American programme of studies. Small class sizes (average 9) ensures maximum teacher support and helps students fulfil their potential.
Living amongst so many nationalities enables students to learn about other cultures, speak new languages and develop a global network of contacts. Sharing a room with a student of another country promotes inter-cultural understanding and these friendships last a lifetime. Outstanding pastoral care, excellent facilities and spacious accommodation help create a home from home in which students feel part of the Brillantmont family, no matter how far from home they are.
Sports are compulsory and a wide variety is offered, varying with the seasons.
After class at Brillantmont our students are busy with clubs. Model United Nations, Habitat for Humanity, the Soup Kitchen, Young Enterprise, music, dance, art, cooking and various sports clubs and teams are just some of the many things that take place. They help develop critical thinking, strengths and talents beyond the classroom, as well as building friendships and having fun!
The school takes advantage of its location in the heart of Europe to develop a sense of internationalism through trips to neighbouring countries and through language acquisition. A week long holiday trip takes place in October, to visit a European city. From January to April, skiing also takes place every weekend, with a ski week in February. At weekends, many activities and excursions are organised in the local area and further afield. We like our students to keep busy and to fully participate in all the opportunities offered – hiking, cycling, camping, city visits, museum trips and lots more.
Brillantmont is unique because:
- its small size enables us to see each and every student as an individual with unique strengths and talents and ensures very close teacher support and contact;
- it offers British A Levels in a wonderful Swiss setting
- it is still owned and run by the same family who founded it in 1882 and we pride ourselves on creating a home away from home;
A Summer Course in July and August gives 10-16 year olds offers French or English classes, afternoon programmes (multisports, coding/ robotics, creative arts, tennis), weekend excursions and evening activities. Minimum stay of 2 weeks.
