Susan Brooks
Susan is a forward-thinking educator whose ideas and approaches stem from wide ranging experience, first in her native Australia and then in the UK, and from a deep and ongoing interest in the process of learning and the skills needed for the workplaces of the future.
In 2019 Susan was appointed founding Head of Northwood Senior, tasked with the establishment of a new secondary school for boys and girls aged 11-16 designed to offer a modern, progressive and more personalised approach to education. Northwood Senior formed the nucleus of LPS Clapham when it was acquired by Dukes Education in 2021.
Susan graduated from Queensland University in 2003 with Bachelor of Secondary Education/Bachelor of Arts dual degrees with a specialism in History and French. She taught at Benowa State High and Wynnum North State High, where she was Head of French, before moving to the UK in 2007 to continue her secondary teaching career at Bromford’s School, Wickford, Essex.
In 2008 she became Head of History at Broomwood Hall, London, followed by promotion to Senior Mistress and Director of Studies, before taking on her role as Broomwood Hall Deputy Head (Academic) in 2014.
Susan believes passionately in the importance of looking at education with fresh eyes and ahead to the future. One of the joys of setting up a new school is the opportunity to explore some of the most exciting new thinking from around the world and to put it into practice. Working in a smaller school also provides the opportunity to flex and trial new ideas more quickly. She is delighted to see that many of the ideas she has introduced are attracting more interest, and more importantly, bearing fruit.
