33-year-old, former Classics scholar Hugh Viney is the founder and CEO of Minerva’s Virtual Academy, a unique, online independent school for pupils aged 11-18, and Minerva Tutors, one of the UK’s most well known providers of private homeschooling and after-school tutoring services.
Over the last seven years, Hugh’s hands-on, passionate approach to growing Minerva and helping to professionalise the industry has opened the door for thousands of home-educated children to achieve the support and academic qualifications they deserve.
In December 2020, Hugh launched Minerva’s Virtual Academy, an online school with a mission: to offer a truly viable, affordable, and fully-online alternative to traditional independent schools for the very first time, and to offer the British Curriculum to all children, no matter where they live in the world.
Hugh’s education philosophy blends tradition with innovation: pupil confidence and multi-disciplinary learning is at the heart of everything Minerva does. His organisations have won many awards over the years, including three nominations for this year's Education Investor Awards. Hugh has also been runner-up for the Duke of York Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the National Business Awards.
