Northwood Schools is a family of four independent schools which includes Broomwood Hall Lower School, Broomwood Hall Upper School, Northcote Lodge, and, from September 2020, NorthWood Senior. Together, we offer an unrivalled quality of education from 4 to 16.
Northcote Lodge is a single-sex day prep school for boys aged 8 to 13 in the heart of London, but in our ethos, approach and philosophy we are far closer to a traditional country prep school. By this, we mean providing that unique combination of the best of the old coupled with a relaxed but action-packed day where boys can flourish in their own unique ways and at their own pace whilst learning the importance of being part of a team.
Our motto, ‘Si je puis’ (I will if I can) – exemplifies our desire to give boys the confidence to know that by trying to do their best, they reap the rewards of personal satisfaction and achievement. During his time at Northcote Lodge, every boy should be able to find something he can shine at and thus know the pleasure in achievement – be it in the classroom, on the sports pitch, or in music and drama.
So while we’re rightly proud of our boys’ outstanding successes in Common Entrance, we’re just as proud of their achievements on the sports fields and in the music, art and drama that are embedded into our curriculum. Perhaps more than this, we measure our success, as a school, by the character and manners of our boys; indeed, ‘The Northcote Way’ is something that we emphasise to all our boys.
We have tailored our approach to the specific needs, interests and learning styles of boys aged 8 to 13, which differ greatly from those of girls of the same age. However, most of our pupils come to us from Broomwood Hall Lower School, our co-educational sibling pre-prep school. Many of our pupils have sisters at Broomwood Hall Upper School, our sibling girls’ prep school. In the final two years at Northcote Lodge there is increasing interaction and collaboration between Northcote boys and Broomwood girls on joint activities from sport to clubs to specialist teaching.
