Barfield is a co–educational Preparatory School for children aged 2 to 13. We aim to give our children a complete educational experience, with outstanding academic teaching in an excellent pastoral setting, and to prepare them fully for the senior school of their choice. Our central belief is that our children should be happy and positively challenged in what they do, and they will achieve to very high levels.
Set in 12 acres of beautiful grounds, one mile east of Farnham, the school was founded in 1933 and became an educational trust in 1963. It is a co-educational preparatory day school, providing the best possible education for the 21st century.
Barfield is characterised by the enduring qualities of warmth and friendliness. Here, we nurture the mind, body and soul. Kindness, mutual respect and strong moral codes create a lasting foundation for life and learning. Family values lie at the heart of the school, and staff maintain a close relationship with parents in order to get to know their pupils in order to nurture their talents and bring out the best in them. Our compassionate staff are always available for children, or parents, if they need to talk to someone.
A happy and respectful rapport between children and staff at Barfield is a wonderful platform for engaged learning. Small class sizes ensure children can work at their own pace while being encouraged, challenged and rewarded in all aspects of their school life. Children benefit from a dedicated ICT suite, Science Laboratory, a new library, and the Hampson Centre which contains designated music rooms, an auditorium, art room and DT room. Barfield is well known for its excellence in music and drama and has several choirs, orchestras and exciting productions every term.
The boys and girls at Barfield enjoy a very healthy balance of time spent indoors and outdoors and make good use of the extensive grounds. As well as enjoying the play areas and sports pitches at break times, the children take part in programmes purposefully designed to maximise their learning in the outdoor environment. Children will also experience many different day trips and residential excursions.
Learning through sport is a key strategy in developing a child’s physical, social and emotional skills and encourages a competitive edge. Our fantastic facilities at Barfield mean that we can enliven and nurture sporting potential. Barfield pupils participate in a wealth of sports - rugby, football, netball, rounders, cricket, tennis, hockey, athletics, gymnastics, dance and weekly swimming lessons in the on-site heated pool. Our outdoor pursuits department ‘Three Peaks Barfield’ offers ropes activities, archery, geo-caching, command tasks, camping, quad-biking and zipwire. These challenge the children physically and mentally whilst engendering courage and resilience. The children can access these facilities as part of their curriculum and as after school activities and holiday camps. There are also further extra-curricular activities to choose from including Judo, Swimming Squad, Hands On, Adventure Activities and Ballet.
We have a highly impressive record for sending our pupils on to a wide range of senior schools. Many gain scholarships and paces at some of the most academically selective schools including Wellington, Lord Wandsworth College, Millfield, St. Catherines, Guildford High, Lancing College, Charterhouse and Cranleigh. Guiding parents through the challenging process of choosing the right school for their child begins in Year 4. The Headmaster and his staff offer sound knowledge and advice based on a thorough understanding of your child’s emotional, academic and physical profile.
Barfield is a magical and welcoming school that nurtures each individual child to their full potential. Make an enquiry to visit the school firstname.lastname@example.org
