Set in 100 acres of beautiful countryside on the edge of Ashdown Forest, Michael Hall Waldorf School is one of the oldest and most established Waldorf schools in the UK, offering education from Early Childhood through Sixth Form.
For over a century, Michael Hall has provided child-centred, holistic education that nurtures academic ability alongside creativity, emotional intelligence and practical skills. Our approach, rooted in the internationally respected Waldorf curriculum, meets children at each stage of development, fostering curiosity, confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
The school is renowned for its warm, inclusive community, strong teacher–pupil relationships, and rich cultural life, including music, drama, festivals, art and crafts. Learning comes alive through storytelling, movement, artistic work and outdoor education, enabling students to engage deeply and meaningfully with their studies.
Our extensive grounds, gardens, woodland and specialist facilities offer an inspiring environment for academic and practical learning. From Kindergarten and outdoor play in the early years, to science labs, workshops, studios and performance spaces in Upper School, pupils experience a balance of intellectual challenge, creativity and wellbeing.
Michael Hall offers a broad Upper School curriculum, with students working towards GCSEs, A Levels, and alternative qualifications such as BTEC, EPQ and Crossfields Integrated Education. Leavers progress to a wide range of universities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group institutions, as well as art colleges, conservatoires, specialist institutions, apprenticeships or creative and technical careers.
Our large, active alumni community remains closely connected, returning for festivals, sending their children to the school, or even teaching here. Some families span three generations of Michael Hall pupils.
At Michael Hall, education is not just preparation for exams, but for life – supporting young people to grow into thoughtful, capable and compassionate adults ready to make a positive contribution to the world.
