Founded in 1893, Harrogate Ladies' College is a boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18, situated in the heart of a beautiful spa town on the edge of glorious countryside in North Yorkshire. We are immensely proud of the cultural diversity that makes up our school; it's what makes us such a vibrant and exciting community to be part of.
Nearly half of our students are boarders, coming from more than 20 different countries. The boarding houses are all large Victorian family houses which are comfortable and welcoming with a friendly and caring atmosphere. The boarding houses are shared by girls in Year 7 to Year 12, whilst Year 13 students enjoy a greater sense of freedom in their own accommodation called 'Tower House'. Each house has a Housemistress and Assistant Housemistress who are responsible for the wellbeing of the girls, whilst our dedicated on-site School Health Centre offers the professional expertise of four qualified nurses and visiting doctors.
Outstanding teaching, excellent pastoral support and a secure, friendly community allow our girls to excel academically and become confident, successful young women who strive to be the very best they can be. A strong community, which is neither too big nor too small, we offer a wide-ranging curriculum with 28 A Level and 22 GCSE subjects to choose from.
In 2015, Harrogate Ladies' College once again achieved excellent academic success with more than 70% of our Year 13 students gaining one or more A* or A grade at A Level. Over 80% of our 2015 leavers secured places at their choice of university, many of which were Russell Group universities (including 14% going on to study at Durham University).
GCSE success also continued with another increase in the number of A* grades achieved, a 100% pass rate overall and 74% of grades at A* - B.
A major innovation is our award-winning Business School where Applied Business, Accounting, Economics and Psychology are taught by specialist teachers. Other specialist resource areas include a Food Technology suite, Science Centre, Music House, Sports Centre and swimming pool. We also provide a wide range of sporting activities, clubs, societies and cultural activities which enhance the academic programme, leading to the successful step into higher education. In addition to academic achievements, our pupils also excel in Art, Drama, Music and Sport.
Harrogate has consistently been voted as the "happiest place to live in the UK" and our campus is situated in a quiet, safe residential area, just a few minutes' walk from the town centre. Harrogate is a cosmopolitan town with beautiful historic buildings and large open spaces and parks, as well as a vibrant café culture and an array of exclusive shops and boutiques. It is a centre for creative arts and hosts many festivals and events throughout the year which we are able to take full advantage of.
Harrogate has excellent rail and road links, with easy access to Leeds Bradford Airport (20 minutes), Manchester Airport (90 minutes) and London Heathrow (35 minute shuttle flight).
