Set within 57 acres of beautiful Surrey parkland, City of London Freemen’s School is a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 7-18. Founded in 1854, Freemen’s has been proudly co-educational from the very beginning - a tradition that continues to shape its inclusive, balanced and forward-thinking community today. Located just 40 minutes from Central London and within easy reach of Heathrow and Gatwick airports, the school offers families the perfect blend of countryside space and global connectivity.

At the heart of the campus sits Walbrook House, a contemporary boarding house designed to feel like a true home away from home. Walbrook offers full, weekly and flexi boarding to suit modern family life. Full and weekly boarding are available from Year 9, with flexi boarding from Year 7, providing a gentle and flexible introduction to boarding. Our small, supportive environment enables highly personalised care, ensuring every pupil is known as an individual. Boarding staff are fully integrated into the life of the school, supporting pupils academically and personally throughout the day and beyond the classroom.

Boarders live in modern, comfortable accommodation arranged in small ‘pods’ of single and double rooms, with welcoming communal spaces that encourage friendship, independence and a strong sense of belonging. Pupils join us from across the UK and around the world, creating a diverse and inclusive community that broadens perspectives and builds lifelong connections. Alongside academic study, pupils benefit from a rich co-curricular programme of over 150 activities, as well as distinctive opportunities through the school’s historic links with the City of London.

Academic excellence is a hallmark of boarding at Freemen’s. In 2025, 92% of A level grades were A*-B, with 90% of pupils progressing to their first-choice universities. Wellbeing sits at the heart of boarding life, and this commitment has been recognised through the national Wellbeing Award for Schools, reflecting the strong relationships and supportive environment that help young people grow in confidence, resilience and independence.
