A different approach with brilliant results

Bredon School is a dyslexia-friendly independent co-educational boarding and day school for children aged 7 to 18 years old located on our extensive 84-acre campus in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside.

Bredon offers each and every pupil an impressive range of traditional and vocational qualifications in an outstanding pastoral environment which ensures that each pupil thrives as an individual. Children are taught in small classes of no more than 12, allowing  individuality to be both nurtured and celebrated.

Ranked in the top 1% of schools and colleges in England for ‘value added’ for 16-18 year olds - a ranking determined by the Department for Education - demonstrates the high quality of our specialist teaching and learning approach.

Our highly qualified, passionate staff strive to secure a love of learning in each of their pupils enabling them to realise their full potential. Thinking differently in its approach to teaching and learning for almost 60 years, the motto of Bredon’s Founder, Lt-Col Sharp ‘the journey is as important as the destination’ still stands today.

Bredon supports, encourages and inspires pupils to achieve throughout their journey, both in and beyond the classroom. Offering a broad spectrum of subjects, activities, opportunities and experiences, the School is able to build pupils’ self confidence and self belief, and this is one of the reasons why Bredon School is judged to be ‘Excellent’ by the Independent School Inspectorate (ISI) for both academic achievement and all-round personal development.

The boarding at Bredon is  unique in that our boarding staff are a purely pastoral team and are not actively involved in the day-to-day teaching of lessons. We believe having a purely pastoral team helps our boarders separate school from ‘home’ after a busy day in the classroom. The boarding team has strong links with the academic staff to ensure joined-up support and help with coursework and prep, and monitoring of academic progress.

The facilities at Bredon extend far beyond our classrooms, science laboratories and sports halls. Bredon School is home to a fully operational farm, a Forest School, Combined Cadet Force amenities, a clay pigeon shooting range, kayak river launch, swimming pool and climbing wall, not to mention our mountain bike and BMX tracks running through our woodland, all available for our pupils to access.

A diverse curriculum and outstanding co-curricular provision, underpinned by superb pastoral care and a family ethos, prepares confident and capable young people to flourish both personally and professionally on their journey beyond the school gates.  With our extensive work experience programme seen as a vital part of every pupil’s personal development, helping pupils to understand the world of work, gaining an insight into individual career areas  whilst developing confidence. It is as a result of this programme that Bredon School was a winner of the ISA Senior School Award for Academic Excellence and Innovation.

We offer pupils the opportunity to take part in mock interviews with invited guests from a wide range of industries in order to meet new people, experience new situations, and fine tune their interview skills and techniques in a friendly yet realistic environment.

Pupils join from the local area, the UK (including London to which we have strong transport links), and the wider world, and come together to form a vibrant community of learners who are socially and morally responsible and who support one another on their journey towards becoming happy, healthy, confident and capable young people.
