Millfield Upper Sixth students are celebrating receiving fantastic A level and BTEC results. The top 100 students, comparable to the size of most school sixth form cohorts, achieved 70% A* to A grades, 97% A* to B and 100* A* to C grades. The year group of 308 students achieved 31% A* to A grades, 61% A* to B grades, 84% A* to C grades and a 100% pass rate.

Forty-two students are heading to US universities including six Ivy League universities and Stanford University. Two students gained places at Oxbridge and three gained highly competitive places to study medicine.  Nine students are attending other universities overseas, including IE University in Spain. Five students are heading straight into professional sport; Archie Vaughan (Somerset County Cricket Club), Dom Kelly (Hampshire County Cricket Club), Steffan Emmanual (Cardiff Rugby Club), Arthur Nasta (Wolverhampton Wanderers) and Scarlett Hale (cricket umpiring in Australia).

Highest achiever Isaac Searle achieved A*A*A*A* in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics. Isaac joined Millfield Prep in Year 5 and is a day student from Street. A keen fencer, Isaac was 5th in the Public Schools’ Fencing Championships and is ranked 25th U20s in the UK. He completed his silver Duke of Edinburgh, was a school prefect and was recognised for his Further Maths academics. Isaac plans to study Maths at Imperial College, London, and is aiming for a career in banking, in the USA.

Isaac said: “I am really pleased with my results. There is such a good balance between sport and academics at Millfield that I have been able to do fencing and academics at the same time. There is a big focus on sport but everything you do gets recognised equally. My chemistry teacher Dr Cheung really inspired me with chemistry, he always extended me by setting things that challenged me and made me ask why.  His enthusiasm for the subject made me love chemistry. Joining in Millfield Prep, I tried lots of sports when I was younger and fencing just stuck for me. Millfield has so many coaches for the different specialisms in fencing which really helps.”

Sol Arbib, a boarder from Petersfield who joined Millfield in Lower Sixth, received A*A*’A*A in Chemistry, Maths, Economics and Physics. On top of his four A levels, he has been Captain of School and Captain of the 1st Football team. Sol has also taken part in debating and represented his house at volleyball. Sol would often help tutor Year 11 students in their Maths GCSE revision. He will be attending Duke University in the US and says that he joined Millfield precisely because of the range of subjects, sports and activities that he could take to the highest level which he felt was not possible at any other school.

Lucy Buckingham, from Bedfordshire, joined Millfield as a boarder in Year 9. She achieved A*, A*, A*, A in Biology, Economics, Maths and Further Maths. At Prize Giving, Lucy was awarded the prize for Economics and academic commitment. She was a prefect and has contributed significantly to both swimming and rowing, representing the school in both. She was awarded The Sue Woods Spirit Prize for rowing at the Millfield Brilliance Dinner. Lucy has already taken up her place at Dartmouth University, USA.

Louis Watson, a boarder from Derbyshire who joined Millfield in Year 9, achieved D*D*D* in BTEC Art and Design and an A in Media Studies. An accomplished Clay Shooter, Louis proved an integral part of the success of the Clay Shooting programme retaining the prestigious high gun award at the 2022 and 2023 Millfield Invitational event, competing against renowned Clay Shooting schools from around the country. He also formed part of the highly successful Boys’ Clay Shooting First Team, winning multiple prestigious titles, including the Harrow School Fido May and the Cheltenham Challenge. Louis is also a talented artist and had his artwork displayed at an exhibition at Studio 44AD in Bath. He is attending the MetFilm School, London.

Morgan Williams, from Pembrokeshire, Wales, received A*A*A* in Maths, French and Economics. Since joining Millfield in Lower Sixth, Morgan has taken advantage of all the opportunities available both in the classroom and on the field.  Morgan captained the first VII at The Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens in March and was named Player of the Tournament. He will be attending Durham University to study Economics and continue playing rugby.

Lucy Wintle, who joined Millfield in Lower Sixth, is a boarder from Pembrokeshire. She achieved A*, A*, A* in Chemistry, Biology and Psychology. Lucy is a national level track and field athlete, having represented Millfield, Somerset and Wales at various national events during her time, while also becoming Welsh Junior National Champion. Lucy was a key figure in the Millfield Girl’s Rugby Programme and has attended Wales Rugby camps. She will go on to study Neuroscience at the University of Bristol.

Pippa Charleson, from Bermuda, joined Millfield Prep in Year 8. Pippa has achieved A*, A*, A*, A in Psychology, English, Maths and Economics. Pippa has been a dedicated swimmer and head of house. She volunteered in Nepal and took part in a specialist Economic collaboration with Kings College, New Zealand, where she discussed challenges and opportunities faced by developing countries. After Millfield, Pippa will be attending the University of Cambridge to study Asian and Middle Eastern Studies in September.

Evie Lewis, a boarder from Faversham, achieved D*D* in BTEC Sport. Evie is a keen rider, holding the title of Captain of Riding and competing for Millfield in many eventing competitions. She also played first team Hockey. Through the sports leadership course she has taken, she has run several sports sessions for younger students and helped with the running of inter-school competitions. She gave a Brilliance Breakfast academic talk. She is studying Sport Management and Coaching at University of Bath.

Naphat Rodsawaeng, who joined Millfield Prep from Thailand as a boarder in Year 8, achieved A*, A*, A, A in Chemistry, Maths, Biology and Further Maths. At Prize Giving, Naphat was recognised for Chemistry and academic commitment. A school prefect and dancer, Naphat has performed numerous times on the stage at school productions and dance shows. She plans to study Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London.

Sebastian Correa Garma, who joined in Lower Sixth from Peru, received A*, A*, A in Maths, Spanish and Further Maths. He is an avid tennis player and joined Millfield for both tennis and academics. He was awarded for his Spanish academics at Prize Giving. He is studying Maths at Bristol University.

India Dusanjh Auty, a boarder from Hampshire, joined Millfield in Year 9. India received A*, A*, A in Geography, PE and Product Design. An accomplished sportsperson, India was in the Hockey Girl’s First team, Clay Shooting First team and Ski team. Despite taking up Clay Shooting later in her Millfield journey, India excelled in the sport and produced incredible results this year. India was part of the Millfield team who won The Oxford Schools Challenge, The Cheltenham Challenge and the Harrow School Fido May, where she was also the Overall Ladies High Gun. She also played cricket and did sailing and took part in Duke of Edinburgh. India is taking a gap year ski instructing in France and hopes to head into a career involving her passion for cars and watches.

Rory Forbes, a boarder from London, joined Millfield in Lower Sixth. He achieved A*, A*, A in Economics, PE and Maths. Rory took part in Triathlon and Athletics during his time at Millfield, representing the school in multiple national events, while also assuming the role of triathlon captain. Rory hopes to compete for Great Britain in either athletics or triathlon. Rory will now study Sports Management at Loughborough University.

Jamie Green, a day student from Langport, Somerset, joined Millfield Prep in Year 8. Jamie achieved A*, A*, A in Computing, Maths and Physics. A keen physicist, he placed in the top 18% nationally in the intermediate British Physics Olympiad in 2022 and was recognised for his academic work in Physics at Prize Giving. He also completed his Duke of Edinburgh Silver award. He is going to study Physics at Bath University.

Maddy Gissing joined Millfield from Dubai as a boarder in Lower Sixth. Maddy achieved D*D* in BTEC Sport and studies Media studies A level. Maddy was awarded a prize for academic commitment at Prize Giving. Maddy is a rugby player, performing consistently at a high level and a fantastic role model. In addition to playing rugby for the school, she plays for Bristol Bears. She is attending Bath University to study Sports Performance.

Thea Janne D’Othee, from Dubai, joined Millfield in Lower Sixth. Thea achieved A*, A*, A in Biology, Chemistry and Maths. Thea is a triathlete and discovered a love for rowing, recently competing at the National Schools Regatta in a pair. She also competed at the National Indoor Rowing competition. She has volunteered in the community, including visits to local care homes. Thea utilised Millfield’s specialist programme for medics, vets and dentists to prepare for university. She will study Medicine at Humanitas University, in Milan, Italy. 

Scarlett Hale, who joined Millfield in Year 10, turned her hand to umpiring after an injury hampered her cricket ambitions and she became the youngest-ever international cricket umpire. She achieved a D*D* in BTEC Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. She umpired during the Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament in Rwanda, last year, officiating eight matches during the 10-day competition including the opening and final fixture. She is heading to Australia to umpire.

Sarah Long, a boarder from the Isle of Man, joined Millfield in Year 9. She achieved A*, A*, A in Computing, Maths and Physics. Sarah excelled in tennis and netball teams, representing both the Isle of Man and Millfield’s first teams in both sports. In November 2021, Sarah was selected into the Isle of Man U21 squad for the Netball Europe Open, gaining her first international cap, and has continued to represent the Isle of Man in international events since. Sarah also competes in athletics and plays piano. She is moving on to study Aerospace Engineering at the University of Nottingham.

Olivia Nardo, a boarder from Cheshire, started at Millfield in Year 9. Olivia received A*, A*, A in Economics, Maths and French. She is an accomplished skier and represented the school ski team in the National Schools Open in 2021, finishing an impressive sixth in the U18 girl’s Special Slalom event. Olivia plays first team hockey and plays tennis. She is planning to study Economics with management at Durham University.

Steffan Emanuel, from Pontypridd, Wales, received a D*D* in BTEC Sport whilst balancing high level rugby commitments both for school and for Wales U18. He also studied Geography A Level. He has signed a professional contract with Cardiff Rugby Club and will be attending Cardiff Met University.  

Other students who achieved fantastic results are as follows: Annabel Wright, Bella Davidson, Molly Edwards, Bella Banaszkiewicz, Sophie Franklin-Adams, Phoebe Good, Rosie Hargrave, Angie Oluwafemi, Naomi Parker, Finn Suter, Majiri Oroh, Archie Thomas and Jay Tittle. The Millfield Community congratulates the entire class of 2024 on their outstanding contributions and incredible examination success.

Headmaster Gavin Horgan said: “These results are a testament to the hard work of our amazing and dedicated students, most of whom are balancing high level sport and arts, alongside their academic endeavours. They are also celebrated by our staff who work tirelessly to support all of our community and offer an unrivalled programme of opportunities for these young people to explore and find their passions. So many of these students chose Millfield because it was the only environment in which they could do so much, to such a high standard.”
