A Millfield Rugby player is celebrating an exceptional year with top A level results following his standout performance at the world’s largest school rugby tournament. 

Morgan Williams, 18 from Pembrokeshire, Wales, today received an exceptional 3 A* grades in Maths, French and Economics. Since joining Millfield in Lower Sixth, Morgan has taken advantage of all the opportunities available both in the classroom and on the field.  

Within his two years at Millfield, Morgan transitioned from the third XV to the second XV, and finally, to the first XV and captained the first VII at The Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens in March, the world's largest rugby tournament with over 9,500 boys and girls aged 13 – 19 competing annually from over 800 schools.  

Morgan not only helped his team secure the U18 Boys Cup for the first time in a decade but also walked away with the prestigious Player of the Tournament award. He said, “It was a big moment for me to win the Player of the Tournament at Rosslyn. Throughout my rugby journey before Millfield, I have been more focused on team results, so I was quite surprised to get this. I think this award is a credit to my time at Millfield, and it shows how much I have grown in confidence as a player. The whole tournament will be a memory that will stay with me, it was my final time playing with the boys and for Millfield. It was a perfect way to end my time here.” 

Morgan joined Millfield so that he could play sport to a high level alongside focusing on academics. He said, “At my previous school when you finish your GCSE’s you can either follow a sports path purely or focus on academics. At Millfield, you are supported by coaches and teachers so you can still do both without having to sacrifice one”. 

Millfield has been crowned the top school for sports in the UK for 10 of the last 11 years. 

Morgan, a boarder in St Annes house, has enjoyed his time on the rugby programme. He said, “I would say that in my two years here at Millfield I have developed massively as a player. The whole rugby programme has been amazing, and you are given lots of opportunities to play regardless of your level and I have really enjoyed academics at Millfield, the teaching style has been very different to what I am used to, and I have learned new ways to learn. At my previous school, you only really learned for exams, whereas at Millfield you learn for both exams and for your future which has prepared me massively for university.” 

Morgan is attending Durham University to study Economics and continue playing rugby.
