Preparing for Competitive Cognitive Ability Tests (including CAT4, ISEB Pre-Tests, Common Entrance and UKiset)
Competitive cognitive ability tests such as CAT4, ISEB Pre-Tests, Common Entrance and UKiset are widely used in UK school admissions and assessment processes. Yet they are often misunderstood by parents and pupils alike.
This session will break down what these tests - particularly CAT4, actually measure, and just as importantly, what they do not. We will explore how CAT4 assesses different types of reasoning, how schools use the results, and how the data can (and should) be interpreted in context.
Common myths and misconceptions will be addressed, including what CAT4 scores do and don’t say about intelligence, academic potential, selective school readiness, or future success. The aim is to give families a clear, balanced understanding of these assessments and how best to prepare for them with confidence and perspective.
