An in-depth guide to the early years of education in the capital, tackling issues from nursery choice to selection at 7/8+.
Sebastian Hepher was appointed as Principal of the Eaton Square Schools Group in September 2019. This includes four nurseries, a Pre Prep., Prep and Upper School; an education from 2.5 years through to 18 years old.
Sebastian Hepher was educated at Alleyn’s School, Dulwich and then qualified as a teacher in 1989, with B.Ed (Hons). He began teaching within secondary education in the maintained sector, teaching at Hurstmere Boys School, Sidcup, Kent and subsequently the The London Nautical School, in Central London.
Mr Hepher then moved into the Independent sector. He joined Eaton House Pre Prep School in 1990 before being asked to lead the new Prep School, Eaton House The Manor, in 1993. Mr Hepher led and grew this school from the small, embryonic phases to where it is today, as one of the leading Prep Schools in the country.
Mr Hepher joined Eaton Square School in 2010, since when the school has grown significantly, as has its standing. The pupils now follow a more academically rigorous and stimulating curriculum, whilst at the same time having wonderful opportunities through the extra-curricular provision. The School has been led through two ISI inspections under his Headship where the findings were Excellent on both occasions.
Mr Hepher is a Council member of IAPS and is Chairman of IAPS 1S (70 Prep Schools in London and southern suburbs) and currently sits on the 1S Committee too; he was previously the Treasurer for IAPS 1S.
Headmaster of Eaton House Belgravia, Huw May is an advocate for the strong 120-year academic heritage of the school, tailoring all his Pre-Preparatory and Preparatory teaching specifically to the learning styles of boys.
An experienced headmaster, Mr May has taken on six headships in total, including Head of Girls at Sydenham High, head of Roedean Junior School, Head of St Mary's Hall Junior School and Head of Eaton House The Manor Pre-Prep School.
Mr May has created a school buzzing with intellectual and creative energy that inspires all the boys to get involved, academically and in every way.
A passionate believer in immersive learning and fluid rather than crystalline intelligence, Mr May wants Eaton House Belgravia boys to achieve a higher state of learning through agile thought and advanced problem solving. This, he believes, is the key to the leadership of the future.
