Glenalmond College

Academic achievement is central to any school and we are justly proud of our record. Our results at both GCSE and A Level are consistently strong and the vast majority of our pupils gain entry to the university of their choice. When it comes to examinations, there is no alternative to hard work, but pupils deserve teachers that can truly inspire them - that bring their subjects to life and make learning both interesting and enjoyable.

Of course, there is far more to an education than just academics. We are a busy seven day-a-week school, built on an ethos of full boarding. We provide a rich and varied range of extra-curricular activities and we encourage our pupils to participate in as many as possible. Young people need challenges, and at times we all need to be taken out of our comfort zones. In meeting these challenges all of our pupils, boarding and day, are given opportunities to develop their leadership skills.

The academic and extra-curricular life at Glenalmond is underpinned by outstanding pastoral care. Our children require space to breath, but they also need the guidance and understanding of caring adults. We are fortunate indeed in having such a dedicated team of house parents and tutors. Their work is at the very heart of our community and they provide a secure, supportive and friendly environment for the young people in their care.

Whilst it is certainly true that people make this school special, we are also blessed with a magnificent location. I cannot conceive of a more wonderful place to study, to live and to grow. Set in the heart of Perthshire, in some of the most beautiful countryside in the United Kingdom, Glenalmond enjoys the best of both worlds - the security of a rural environment including unrivalled access to outdoor pursuits and the excitement that is provided by easy access to two of our greatest cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Throughout my career as an English teacher, housemistress and school leader, I have always strived to be child-centred. My over-riding objective is that the boys and girls at Glenalmond enjoy a fulfilling and successful time at school, and in doing so they develop the humility and confidence required to live significant lives when they leave. I hope you enjoy browsing our website and that it inspires you to come for a visit. I promise you a very warm welcome!
