Millfield is renowned as one of the top co-educational boarding and day schools in the UK. The school has the resource and attitude to bring together key staff to provide an education and experience that honours the individual child at the centre. This doesn’t happen in other schools. Academic study, cultural and sporting endeavours set every student on the path to success, going into the world with confidence and maturity to write their own futures, succeeding in all walks of life and supporting those around them.
Founded in 1935, Millfield’s vision is to be the leading global arena for the development of children. Full boarding and flexi boarding are offered from ages 7-13 at the Prep School and full boarding for ages 13-18 at the Senior School.
The school offers outstanding education, sport, creative arts and weekend programmes. The breadth of our offer is unmatched anywhere else in the UK. Our unrivalled facilities include a science centre, concert hall, theatre, art gallery, equestrian centre, an Olympic size swimming pool, renowned Learning Support Departments and brand-new Cricket and Golf Centres opening in Spring 2020. Through small class sizes of around 8-16, excellent teachers and expert sports coaches, Millfield aims to ensure that every student is individually supported to discover their brilliance.
Our magnificent facilities are set in over 400 acres of grounds across both the Prep and Senior School campuses in Somerset. London is 135 miles away and major air, rail and road links are all within easy reach. Millfield has its own Travel Office to support pupils' transfer to airports and train and coach stations.
Our rigorous academic programme is supported by a strong extra-curricular programme in the arts, drama, music and sport, as well as our activity programme which allows pupils to choose from over 100 activities including dance, skiing, Duke of Edinburgh's Award and falconry. Pupils take part in individual sports and team games and we compete in regional and national fixtures. Whilst Millfield has earned an excellent reputation for sporting success – we were the most represented school at the 2012 Olympics – our main focus is teaching pupils a broad, balanced sports programme to promote confidence, health and wellbeing.
