Philippa was educated at Croham Hurst School, followed by Roedean School for Sixth Form. She attended UCL gaining a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics, 1st class and PhD in Fluid Dynamics. Prior to embarking on a teaching career she completed a PGCE course at the Institute of Education. Philippa started teaching at Harrow School in 1993 and during a 30 year tenure taught IGCSE, A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, A level Statistics, STEP, Oxford entrance tests, AEA and UKMT challenge material. She has been involved in a partnership scheme to raise attainment from D to C and A to A* for selected pupils in local maintained schools. Her main responsibilities at Harrow have included Head of Mathematics, ISI inspector, Examination marker for Edexcel IGCSE, Year 12 Registrar and Awards Registrar and other responsibilities have included non-residential boarding house tutor, organising “Long Ducker” – a large scale charity running event and the annual “Biathlon”, which is a swim/run or row/run competition. It was Philippa’s role as Awards Registrar (2011 – 2023) in which I oversaw the assessment and awarding of all scholarships and means tested bursaries.
