Peter Thackrey is Deputy Head (Pastoral) at Bedales. Peter read Russian and French at Durham University, before training as a journalist. He worked as a freelance journalist in Moscow for two years, before returning to London where he spent a year in Financial Research. Peter started his teaching career in 2006 completing his PGCSE teacher training at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School where he stayed until 2012 teaching French and Russian and becoming a Day Housemaster. Peter moved into the Boarding sector when he became Head of Languages at Bedales. Peter was then promoted to Houseparent and then Head of Boarding through to 2020 when Peter moved to Harrow Shanghai as Deputy Head. Due to the pandemic Peter returned to Bedales to be reunited with his family and is now Deputy Head (Pastoral) at Bedales. Peter’s firm belief is that when pupils, parents and the school all work together it has the best pastoral outcomes for the child.
