Matthew Mostyn

Headmaster , St Edmunds College & Prep

Educated at Downside School and the University of Exeter, Matthew is a Modern Linguist. He began his teaching career at Cheltenham College, where he taught French and German, coached sport, ran the theatre, helped with boarding and managed the College polo team.

From there, he moved to Shrewsbury School, where he completed fourteen years, of which ten were spent as housemaster of a 13–18 boys’ boarding house. In 2013, he became Second Master at Stonyhurst College in Lancashire, with overarching responsibility for the day to day running of the school.

Since September 2019 Matthew has been Headmaster of St Edmund’s College & Prep School in Hertfordshire, a co-educational 3 – 18 school, famous for being England’s oldest Catholic school and for its belief that in the education and upbringing of any child the co-curricular is just as important as the academic. St Edmund’s was also an early adopter of the principles of High Performance Learning (HPL) and is accredited as a HPL World Class School and Research Hub. Matthew is an ISI Team Inspector, was a prep school governor for many years and is also a governor at another leading independent boarding school.
