Judith Fremont-Barnes

Head, St Paul's cathedral
United Kingdom

Judith Fremont-Barnes has been Head of St Paul’s Cathedral School (SPCS) and a member of the Executive Leadership Team since September 2023. This is her third headship, following service at Milton Abbey in Dorset and Duke of Kent School in the Surrey Hills. SPCS educates 285 pupils from 4-13, including the Choristers of St Paul's Cathedral.

A graduate in English Language and Literature from Christ Church, Oxford, Judith has taught at schools and universities spanning the age range 3-22, including roles as Head of English at Radley College and lecturer at Kobe Kaisei Women’s University in Japan.

Judith has served on the Executive Committee of the Boarding Schools Association and is a Director of the Society of Heads. Her leadership career has focused on change management with projects including tech transformation, developing a new senior school and overseeing organisational culture change. In all her schools the arts have played a central role in a holistic education.

Judith moved to St Paul’s with her husband, Gregory, senior lecturer in War Studies at RMA Sandhurst; they have two grown-up sons.

Here at SPCS Judith is overseeing the education of the first girl Choristers and a major expansion of our boarding provision. She is intent on making sure that the Choir's fully funded means-tested bursaries reach pupils most in need of transformational education opportunities, and also committed to ensuring that all achievement is rooted in wellbeing and sees the school's role as to equip and enable children to live life in all its fullness.
