James Monaghan hails from South Devon, England where he spent a large amount of his childhood. He was a student at The Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe, where he boarded and completed his A Levels.

After leaving school, James went on to complete a BSc (Hons) in Geography at Middlesex University and a PGCE at Southampton University. In 1994 he was appointed as a Geography teacher at Mill Hill School in North London, where he worked for 17 years. During this time, James coached school rugby and cricket teams; ran the Combined Cadet Force; coordinated extra-curricular activities and spent 10 years as a Housemaster.

Between 2011 and now he has held positions within the North London Collegiate family of Schools as Director of Boarding, Vice Principal, Teaching and Learning and Vice Principal, Curriculum before being appointed, Principal of NLCS, Dubai and has led the school ever since. He completed a master’s degree in educational leadership in 2018 from the University of Buckingham. James is a passionate teacher of geography and enjoys all sports, including cycling and triathlons. His other big passion is spending time with his family.
