Roedean School

‘Honneur aulx dignes’ (‘honour the worthy’)

Roedean Way, Brighton, East Sussex, BN2 5RQ

Description

With its stunning and unique cliff-top position by the sea in Brighton, Roedean girls have the space to grow up at their own pace and realise their full potential.

Roedean combines the tradition and heritage of a school for girls founded in 1885 with dynamic teaching, an extensive co-curricular offer, exceptional accommodation following an £11 million refurbishment, and an all-round education that ISI judged in 2021 to be ‘excellent in all areas.’

Roedean provides boundless opportunities for every girl looking for a unique and authentically holistic education, placing a very high value, not only on academics, but on all the experiences that take place beyond the classroom; in Sport, Art, Drama, Music, and Dance, all of which make up an essential part of life at Roedean.  The opportunity for girls to be able to excel in several different fields is one of the great gifts of Roedean, since it provides them with the space and time to devote to their passions, and all in one place.

The all-round experience that Roedean offers enables every single girl to find her passion and voice, meaning everyone leaves Roedean feeling that anything is possible.  Roedean girls feel confident in their abilities, and this is reflected in our outstanding results.  In 2021, over 90% of grades awarded at GCSE were grades 7 to 9 (A-A* equivalent), whilst the A-A* pass-rate for A Levels was 82%, underlining the School’s academic prowess; these successes are the result of an education that strives to make learning exciting and memorable.

The school is easily accessible from London and the South, and it is the mix of local, London and overseas girls which gives it a special and dynamic atmosphere, with the ISI report stating that ‘respect for diversity and other cultures is excellent and a strength of the school.’

Weekly boarding is becoming increasingly popular with families who live in London, Sussex, and Surrey.  It means that girls get the most out of the educational and co-curricular opportunities from Monday to Friday, and then return home to other friends and family at the weekend.  Weekly Boarders from London can join the ‘Victoria Escort’, where girls are chaperoned on the short train journey between Brighton and London Victoria (53 minutes) by a member of staff on Friday evening and met at Victoria Station on Sunday evening to return to Roedean.

Our aim at Roedean is to nurture each girl’s talents, to spark her curiosity, to develop her skills, and to let her imagination run riot. Visiting the school and meeting the girls is the best way to get to know us. Please get in touch to arrange a visit, attend an Open Day, or for your daughter to take part in one of our popular Experience Days.
