Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill

Forty Lane, London, HA9 9LY

Description

Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill is an international bilingual school that caters for students from the ages of 3*-18. We were inaugurated in 2015 by the then President of France, François Hollande, and have subsequently grown to cater for around 900 students.

In that time, we have consistently delivered the very highest standards for each and every student. This year 100% of our final year students passed the French Baccalaureate, in addition to 100% of those at Brevet level (16-years-old). Of those that graduated, 100% of students who applied to Russell Group universities received an offer, while 92% of students who applied to UCAS received an average of 3.5 offers out of a maximum of 5.

Our continued drive for excellence means that we are the only French international school in the UK to be rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted for Sixth Form provision. In addition, we were the first French international school in the UK to be authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer its prestigious Diploma Programme (IBDP), which we launched in September.

In our Primary section, we deliver 50% of the curriculum in English, and 50% in French, which can see students in as little as one or two years being able to speak with a level of competency and fluency that far exceeds pupils in British schools. Indeed, by the age of 11, our students read Molière in French at the same time as Shakespeare in English.

While in our Secondary section, students are able to choose between a twin-track approach: the Bac Français Bilingue, which leads to the French baccalaureate during Sixth Form; and the English International Programme, which leads to the IBDP. During their time in the Secondary section, students also have the opportunity to learn other languages such as Spanish, German and Mandarin.

The IBDP is an excellent example of how students can learn more broadly and deeply than with the British curriculum. For example, if a child is being taught about revolution in History, they’re not restricted to simply learning about the English Civil War and Charles I, and could instead choose to learn about the French or Russian revolutions.  The IBDP is focused on inquiry and concept-based learning, which means students are able to do a lot of their own research, as well as choose their own topics and phrase their own questions themselves. This is ideal preparation for higher education.

There are many other advantages to sending your child to a bilingual school. Most obviously, each child benefits from receiving the best of two curriculums, and the ability to master multiple languages in a highly-supportive pedagogical structure.

Another advantage of sending your child to a bilingual school is the international environment. In  our school, we have 17 nationalities of teachers, 29 nationalities of staff and 45 nationalities of students. It means that pupils can flourish as the international citizens they will need to become in order to succeed in their life beyond education. Our modern, progressive approach to teaching and learning is complemented by a holistic culture of wellbeing at the heart of our school. Indeed, we have a dedicated team of counsellors and even a therapy dog to support our students.

What’s clear is that the education landscape is changing, forcing schools to reevaluate how they educate their students. At Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill we are extremely well prepared to meet those challenges head-on. That’s why the feedback we receive from our families, on the well-rounded educational experience we provide, overwhelmingly says that we equip their children with a comprehensive education that will prepare them for life.

*An Early Years Programme for Pre-reception (three-years-old) and Reception (four-years-old) will be opening in September 2020.
