As a smaller school with a strong community ethos, Northwood Senior gives pupils a more bespoke education than that of a larger school. We are able to get to know each boy or girl really well and guide, encourage and support them to not only navigate their way to GCSE success, but give them a fully rounded education that will equip them for a confident future.

A good secondary education should develop the important skills that he or she will carry with them for life and that will help them in the challenging and fast-changing world of work. It goes without saying that it should deliver the exam results they need and deserve to help them move on to the next stage of the educational ladder. However, it also matters that their interests are stimulated, their talents nurtured, their confidence built and that in these crucial years where so much changes physically and emotionally, that they are happy, encouraged and feel the support of a caring community.

Whilst a certain degree of stress is something that everyone encounters – and this is why it's important to teach our children to be resilient - too much can be negative. That's why Northwood Senior offers an excellent education that’s not purely driven by a focus on endless exam preparation; something that is particularly prevalent in London.

Our pupils will know the joy of an education that is rounded, stimulating and healthy - both physically and mentally; an education where good grades and exams are still important – along with healthy competition in sport, drama, music and the arts, but where the focus will be on developing the self; building reflective, community-minded young adults who have a passion for learning and the skill set to tackle the exciting future that awaits them.

Our curriculum includes career awareness, an understanding of finance and budgeting, a sense of community and a knowledge of an individual’s rights and responsibilities within society. We continue and build on the work of the other schools within the group and show pupils how to use their own resources and skills to help improve the lives of others, as well as their own through voluntary and charitable work.

Philanthropy is an important part of a Northwood Senior education helping pupils to know the value of helping others whilst also teaching valuable entrepreneurial skills and enabling them to know the satisfaction of seeing the fruits of their own money-raising labours. As with other schools in the group, we have a relationship with NAEF, the charity set up by the Northwood Schools’ Group which helps to bring the transformative power of education to some of the world’s poorest children in Gondar, Ethiopia.

We don’t believe that there should be a typical exit – just the one that’s right for each individual pupil.  For some, it may be a move to a sixth form at a London day school, for others it may be a boarding option.  Some may prefer the move to a sixth form college whilst others may prefer something more specialised.  Some will want A levels, others may prefer BTec. Above all, we work together with pupils and their parents to ensure that we find the next step that is right for them.

If this sounds like the sort of education you want for your son or daughter, we'd be delighted to meet you and show you around the school.
