Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill is an independent, co-ed, bilingual day school serving 850 students from ages 3 to 18 that aims to develop every child into a principled and forward-thinking world citizen. Located on a leafy five-acre campus in north London, the school is rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted for sixth form and personal growth and welfare. It boasts impressive 100% pass rates on tough French exams and 100% university matriculation. Graduates receive offers from the world’s most prestigious schools, including universities in the UK’s Russell Group (Cambridge, Imperial, LSE, UCL, King’s College, etc.), the US Ivy League, Canada, the Netherlands, and French Classes Préparatoires aux Grandes Écoles.
Our students thrive in an international French-English environment underpinned by academic excellence and emotional support. Language immersion begins at age 3 in small, family-like classroom settings for pre-Reception and Reception students. In our unique Early Years programme, classes are taught jointly by native speakers of French and English, both present at all times — like two parents in a multilingual household. In the Primary section, instruction is half in English, half in French from Year 1/GSM to Year 6/CM2. All grade levels meet daily with both French- and English-speaking teachers. In Secondary school, students choose between a French bilingual program accredited by the Ministry of Education, leading to the brevet and baccalauréat, or an English-oriented track leading to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Students who speak only English can join Lycée Churchill in Early Years or Secondary.
Unlike local schools taught in a single language that can tie students to a national curriculum and restrict their future options in other countries, Lycée Churchill opens worldwide educational avenues. The school is distinguished by remarkable diversity, with students from 45 countries and teachers and staff of 29 different nationalities. Our highly-qualified faculty collectively boast hundreds of years of teaching experience at all educational levels. More than 95% have advanced degrees, either Master’s or PhDs.
Lycée Churchill teachers make enlightened use of technology, including tools that facilitate different styles of learning and enable both collaboration and self-guided study. They focus squarely on the needs and abilities of individual students, employing the latest pedagogical techniques delivered via innovative and creative approaches. The staff play a crucial role, too, in fostering a supportive and energetic school culture that promotes resilience, responsibility, empathy, and dialogue.
Our light, spacious classrooms are outfitted with video projectors, Apple TV, and ubiquitous but secure Wi-Fi. Science, arts, and technology classrooms, which boast state-of-the-art learning equipment, are located in our modern annex, along with a warm and inviting canteen that serves healthy and nutritious lunches. Our PE facilities include a vast indoors gym and three outdoors sports courts. The school is surrounded by green spaces and magnificent trees that offer a natural environment for playtime and outdoor “forest school” lessons. All of our spaces are fully accessible through ramps and elevators in line with our goals of diversity and inclusivity.
Lycée Churchill also offers a comprehensive remote learning programme called LIL Online. This bilingual curriculum, offered via live-streamed classes and videoconferencing, is specifically designed for students and families seeking a more structured and communal home schooling experience. It’s also a boon to families transitioning between countries, who can now be a part of our community before or after they live in London.
Application for a place should be made electronically through the school’s website. Pre-registration for the following academic year opens in the autumn and the school accepts applications year round.
