Welcome to Hockerill Anglo-European College. We passionately believe that every student deserves the opportunity to be the best they can be and that our school gives them that opportunity. We are a state co-educational day and boarding school for students aged 11 to 18 and offer our students a dynamic, vibrant and exciting learning environment where development of the whole student is our priority. The College offers a rigorous and broad curriculum, and is proud to be one of the largest state schools offering the prestigious International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma programmes. With a twin focus on the two specialisms of Languages and Music, Hockerill offers a truly distinct setting for a world-class education. Located in beautiful grounds on the edge of Bishop’s Stortford the school is in close proximity to London and the South East of England and accepts applications for boarding and day places from students with a current UK passport or the right to residency in the UK.

The College’s Mission Statement: 'Inspiring knowledgeable, enquiring and caring global citizens through excellence in education' makes clear our focus on providing challenging and broad educational experiences to enable our students to take their place in the ever-changing twenty first century world. Underpinning the College’s Mission Statement are our Guiding Principles:

  • High aspirations

  • International outlook

  • Lifelong learning

  • Sustainable development

  • Ethical leadership

  •

and these contribute to making Hockerill such a highly regarded and successful school.

We hope that you feel that Hockerill will be a place where your child could thrive and succeed. Come and visit and let our students, staff and campus show you what makes the College so special.

We are one of the UK's largest maintained boarding schools and offer exceptional value for UK passport holders or those enjoying UK right of residence.

The government pays tuition fees for students meeting these conditions, effectively reducing costs by a third compared with those charged for similar services in an independent school. The College is situated approximately ten minutes from Stansted Airport and an hour from London.

Residential students enjoy all the additional qualitative advantages of our boarding expertise and experience, including:

  • Our proven record in meeting the needs of students from diverse backgrounds and cultures

  • The opportunity for our staff to recognise and develop individual potential and talents

  • The support of our experienced and qualified boarding house teams

  • An outstanding range of activities and opportunities

Boarders at the College are constantly provided with stimulating and challenging experiences and it is the richness and diversity of boarding life, coupled with high academic standards and the availability of the International Baccalaureate that attract students from all over the world.

Young people today face increasing pressures to compete for places at top universities and for rewarding careers. Academic qualifications alone are not sufficient to guarantee success in the wider world. Maturity, confidence, versatility, good social skills, self-discipline and self-motivation are all qualities needed to achieve their full potential and boarding at Hockerill can provide a unique environment in which to develop these qualities. We encourage each student to be positive, well-rounded individuals with enquiring minds and a tolerance of the differences of others and our aim is to provide a safe, secure and open environment in which students are able to mature and flourish in preparation for making a contribution in the wider world.
