Founded in 1925, Frensham Heights is a progressive co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 3 to 18, set within 120 acres of Surrey countryside near Farnham, just 40 miles from London. Since its foundation, the school has championed individuality, creativity and independent thinking, creating an environment where young people can be themselves and thrive. This emphasis on supporting rather than moulding students remains central to the school's ethos today.
Relationships are at the heart of life at Frensham. With no school uniform and teachers and students on a first-name basis, learning is built on genuine mutual respect rather than formality. Small classes and strong pastoral care ensure that every student is known as an individual and encouraged to develop their strengths, pursue their interests and grow in confidence.
Academic achievement is important, but it is viewed as part of a much broader education. Students benefit from a wide-ranging curriculum in which creative, practical and academic subjects are valued equally. Unlike many schools, Dance, Drama, Music, Art, Ceramics and Design Technology remain part of the curriculum until the end of Year 9, embedding creativity from an early age.
The Sixth Form offers exceptional breadth, enabling students to build personalised programmes that reflect their interests and future ambitions. Alongside a wide range of A Levels, BTECs and creative RSL courses, students benefit from enrichment opportunities that develop communication, leadership, collaboration, creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Students progress to a diverse range of destinations, including Russell Group universities, leading specialist arts institutions, competitive degree apprenticeships and careers across an equally broad range of sectors.
Creativity is a defining strength of the school. Frensham is renowned for its performing and creative arts provision and recently launched its specialist Sixth Form Arts Awards programme. Open to students studying one or more creative or performing arts subjects, the programme provides industry insight, professional development opportunities and specialist mentoring alongside academic study.
Boarding at Frensham is designed to be flexible and family-friendly. The school offers full, weekly, flexi and occasional boarding, allowing families to choose the option that best suits their needs. The mixed boarding environment reflects the school's belief that young people benefit from living, learning and growing together in a community that mirrors modern life.
Beyond the classroom, students enjoy more than 130 extracurricular activities and a wealth of real-world learning experiences. From specialist immersion days and environmental projects to the Year 8 Village and activities such as wakeboarding, students are encouraged to try something new, broaden their horizons and develop interests that may last a lifetime.
