Francis Holland School, Regent’s Park, is one of the leading girls’ independent schools in London, reported as ‘Excellent’ in its March 2022 Educational Quality ISI Inspection Report. Our four core values of Knowledge, Compassion, Spirit and Perseverance allow us to fulfil our aim to provide an excellent, balanced education within a supportive, friendly and happy community.
We have an enviable reputation for academic success and are known as a caring school where girls can thrive in a kind and nurturing environment. Here at Francis Holland, your daughter will be taught by well-qualified and dedicated teachers. She will learn to appreciate the culture and diversity of contemporary London, whilst also feeling secure that her school has a tradition of excellence which stretches back over 140 years.
The location and surroundings of the school, its proximity to Regent’s Park and its links to Russell Group, European and US universities, as well as top Drama and Art Schools, all contribute to a sense of aspiration and achievement. It is woven into the fabric of FHS that girls should leave not only with outstanding examination results, but also with the self-confidence, adaptability and independence necessary to thrive in the modern, international world. Our innovative enrichment programmes, such as our pioneering Hale Lecture series, will enhance your daughter’s learning, introducing her to inspirational female leaders across different sectors and careers.
FHS has long been known for the emphasis that is placed on excellent pastoral care: the happiness and wellbeing of every pupil is our priority. At all stages we aim to identify any individual difficulties pupils may be facing by collaborating with parents and staff in order to ensure the best support for each pupil’s particular needs. A One-to-One Counselling Service is available twice a week, where pupils are able to discuss personal matters (no problem is too small!). There is also a well-being manager who is in school four days a week who offers one-to-one sessions and group sessions.
A strong sense of community is derived from a much-loved House system and numerous House events such as the Eurovision Song Contest, the Mini Marathon on Regent’s Park, the Inter-House Spaghetti Architecture Challenge and, of course, Sports Day! This is enhanced by a strong outreach programme, supporting local charities alongside its strong partnerships with local schools in London and the Rainbow Centre in Sri Lanka. Volunteering in the local community is part of the core principles of FHS life, particularly in the Sixth Form where pupils are encouraged to seek their own placements and develop their own strengths and interests (for example volunteering in homework clubs in local libraries, with local schools such as Swiss Cottage Specialist School or with elderly people who are housebound).
In terms of clubs and societies, co-curricular sports, drama and music, it is safe to say that your daughter will never be bored at FHS. The school has its own onsite swimming pool and gym, and girls partake in a vast variety of team sports on Regent’s Park, just a five-minute walk away. State-of-the-art new art, drama and music facilities opened in November 2021, and there are around three major plays/ musicals and twelve concerts per year.
Francis Holland’s central London location offers a wonderful environment in which to learn, and there are countless trips and visits around the capital and all over the UK. We also have an extensive programme of trips abroad, the most recent of which were an Art and History of Art trip to Florence and Rome, a Choir Tour to Venice, a Classics Trip to Greece and a Geography Trip to Iceland, all of which took place over October Half Term 2022.
Our Sixth Formers enjoy their own dedicated Sixth Form Centre, Linhope House, which opened in September 2022. Linhope House, which has undergone a £5 million investment, combines an elegant, Georgian exterior with traditional features such as the Reading Room. The cutting-edge interior includes a Think Lab and collaborative learning and study spaces providing the perfect transition between school and university. Student voice is key at FHS and current students had significant input into the design of the interior, resulting in a serene Scandinavian-style decor. The Common Room features a bio-farm plant wall, known to increase wellbeing, productivity, and attention spans.

.By increasing the dedicated Sixth Form space by 300%, with an extra 663sqm at Linhope House, FHS has enabled the School building at Ivor Place to grow by adding a new Science laboratory, English, IT and Geography facilities, thereby benefiting the younger year groups too. The close proximity of Linhope House, just two minutes away, ensures that the Sixth Form gain a level of independence but retain their important roles as pastoral ambassadors and leadership role models for the lower years.
Academic, music and sport scholarships are available at 11+ and academic, music, art and sport scholarships are available at 16+. Bursaries up to 100% of fees are available.
