Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, Eton College is a boys’ boarding school with around 1,300 pupils, situated across the river Thames from the pretty Berkshire town of Windsor. Eton has been educating for the future for nearly 600 years.
Eton College is a charity for the advancement of education. At our heart sits an independent boys’ boarding school which leads a dynamic range of educational activities and an expanding network of educational partnerships.
The charity’s primary purpose, determined from its Christian foundation in 1440, is to draw out the best of young people’s talents and to enable them to flourish and make a positive impact on others through the course of a healthy, happy and fulfilling life.
Throughout our history, we have been one of the leading independent schools in the UK and we continue to provide a stimulating all-round education, coupled with academic excellence. Our academic success comes from a deep commitment to learning and independent thought. Our pupils benefit from the intellectual quality and inspiring teaching of Masters who are passionate about their roles inside and outside the classroom. Our broad co-curriculum enables pupils to identify and develop their own skills and strengths within a supportive environment. Led by House Masters and Dames, our 25 boarding Houses offer communal identities and, alongside our co-curriculum, support the positive development of character and attitude. Approximately one fifth of our pupils currently receive financial aid. See our website for further details.
