The Downs Malvern is a multi-award-winning day and boarding prep school for children aged 6 months to 13 years. Prep School for Malvern College, it offers an exceptional start, combining academic ambition with creativity, compassion and a strong sense of adventure. The school has received significant recognition, most recently being named winner of the Talk Education Award for Pastoral Care & Wellbeing 2026.
Throughout their journey, pupils benefit from specialist teaching and a broad, carefully structured education, enhanced in Years 7 and 8 by the TDM Baccalaureate: a bespoke programme recognising academic performance alongside personal growth, character and curiosity, helping pupils prepare for senior school and beyond.
The Downs Malvern has a strong record of pupils achieving 13+ scholarships to leading senior schools, including Malvern College. This year, around 60% of Year 8 pupils received scholarships and awards across a range of disciplines.
STEM is embedded throughout the curriculum, with pupils encouraged to experiment, problem-solve and apply their learning practically. Winner of STEM Project of the Year at the Worcestershire Education Awards 2026, the school also has the world’s oldest private miniature railway, the Downs Light Railway, which pupils help to operate and maintain.
Alongside day pupils, boarding is an important part of life at The Downs Malvern. Flexible options and a warm, homely environment give children the opportunity to develop independence, build lasting friendships and enjoy life as part of a close-knit community, all within a structured and supportive setting.
Beyond the classroom, pupils enjoy a wide-ranging co-curricular programme. Saturday morning Hobbies give pupils from Year 3 upwards the chance to explore interests from mountain biking, golf and orchestra to Mathemagicians, origami and farming, supported by the school’s smallholding and market garden.
