Bede’s is a coeducational day and boarding school, educating pupils from the age of 4 to 13 at our Prep School nestled on a cliff top above Beachy Head, with stunning views of the sea, and our Senior School School at Upper Dicker with the School’s village campus encompassing 140 acres of rural Sussex.
With a reputation for developing the unique talents of each and every pupil, recent years have seen Bede’s experience five consecutive years of academic improvement at both GCSE and A Level, achieving the top value added ranking at A Level in the southern region. This has been achieved whilst holding firm in the resolve to not academically ‘top-slice’ intake or comprise its distinctive holistic education ethos.
Bede’s School includes a number of truly unique amenities including its own zoo, a multi-award winning Art School and the UK’s oldest residential modern and ballet school, the Legat School of Dance.
Sporting facilities include a practice golf course, over a dozen sports fields, a floodlit multi-use games area, water-based AstroTurf and 8 tennis courts, with Bede’s extensive Sports Complex including an 8-court sports hall, cutting-edge fitness suite, competition-sized swimming pool and 4 squash courts.
A school which has always had an eye on the future, Bede’s two most recently built boarding houses were recognised in 2013 by the Institute of Chartered Surveyors for their outstanding design and innovation. The School has also integrated a number of green and digital technologies into its buildings including one of the largest biomass systems in the region, solar panels, micro power generation systems and ground-source heat pumps.
Campus-wide high-speed Wi-Fi and a new MyBedes extranet service ensure that cutting-edge technologies belie the school’s rural location, and with train links taking an just over an hour into London Victoria, an hour-and-a-half to the Channel Tunnel and 40 minutes to Gatwick, the school is enviably located at arm’s length from the hustle and bustle of the city while still being very much connected to the globalised, modern world.
