Barrow Hills School
Boys & Girls
Nursery & Pre-Prep, Preparatory
Barrow Hills is a lively and aspirational independent school and nursery for girls and boys aged 2 to 13.
Located in the heart of the Surrey Hills, we welcome children into a warm, inclusive community set within 33 acres of beautiful woodland. Our grounds provide space to play, climb, explore and imagine - supporting both wellbeing and a lifelong love of the outdoors.
As the Good Schools Guide says… “Barrow Hills has the environment, learning culture and pastoral care balanced perfectly to nurture success.”
Our specialist teachers bring deep subject knowledge and genuine care. Curiosity, compassion and courage shape our culture, enabling every child to thrive. Pupils leave us with a lasting love of learning. We place equal value on academic achievement and the thoughtful development of critical thinking, underpinned by strong emotional intelligence.
From the Early Years Foundation Stage through to Common Entrance, pupils make excellent progress within a rich and well-balanced curriculum. In 2025, 57% of grades achieved at Common Entrance were A or A*.
Pastoral care lies at the heart of Barrow Hills. Through our House system and a strong sense of community, pupils build lasting friendships, develop empathy and learn to lead with kindness. A broad co-curricular programme offers opportunities in sport, the arts, leadership, forest school and outdoor education, while our commitment to service encourages pupils to make a positive contribution to the world.
Barrow Hills pupils are truly prepared for greater things. In 2026, 100% of pupils secured places at their chosen senior schools at 11+ and 13+, many with scholarships across academic, sporting and creative disciplines. As part of the Bridewell Royal Hospital family of schools, children benefit from the option of a seamless pathway to King Edward’s Witley, alongside destinations such as Cranleigh, Charterhouse, Churcher’s College, St Catherine’s, RGS Guildford and Seaford College.
The spirit of Barrow Hills is best experienced in person. We warmly invite prospective families to visit, where you will receive a personalised tour tailored to your child’s interests.
