Appointment of New Head

St James Senior Girls' School Stand: 254
Following a very successful period leading the school with passion, enthusiasm and integrity, Emma Bell will be leaving St James Senior Girls’ School at the end of the Autumn term.

The Trustees are delighted to appoint Helen de Mattos as her successor. Helen will be taking on the Headteacher role from January 2026.

We thank Emma for everything she has done for the school and her immense commitment throughout. The whole St James community wishes her all the best in her future endeavours.

We look forward to welcoming Helen to the School in the new year. Helen already has very strong ties to our community; most recently serving as Chair of Governors at St James Senior Boys’ School, and having taught at St James Senior Girls’ School for over a decade earlier in her career and having been educated here herself. She will be joining us from Farnborough Hill School in Hampshire where she is currently Director of Drama.

The Trustees will be working with Emma, Helen and the wider senior leadership team to support with a successful transition over the coming months.
