The Old Malthouse is a former preparatory school located on the beautiful Isle of Purbeck, just outside the picturesque seaside town of Swanage. We offer superb school group accommodation, teaching and facilities for the study of life and earth sciences or a base from which to do your own thing.
With the Jurassic Coast right on our doorstep, The Old Malthouse is located in the perfect spot to reinforce many classroom topics and provide excellent fieldwork opportunities for Geography and Science. The Isle of Purbeck is home to a whole cross section of ecosystems from heath land and coastline to woodland and meadows. There are numerous options for exploring the natural world around us. We can provide expertise, guidance and equipment tailored to your particular course or project.
Alternatively you may want to use our accommodation and facilities to organise your own residential trip. We act as a base to explore the local area and nearby attractions such as Monkey World, the Tank Museum, Corfe Castle, Durdle Door, Lulworth Castle, Weymouth Sea Life Centre, Swanage Steam Railway to name just a few, or children can make the most of the varied adventurous activities available locally, such as coasteering, kayaking, climbing and abseiling.
The Old Malthouse is run by experienced boarding-school staff. We provide high quality dormitory accommodation and en suite twin rooms for staff, for groups of up to 70. All food is cooked on site using local suppliers and local produce as far as possible. Other facilities include a large sports hall, sports pitches and tennis courts providing ample outdoor space. For indoor activities we have common rooms with TV/DVD players, a library, a pool table, table tennis tables, a table football table and plenty of board games to keep everyone occupied in inclement weather.
