Now in its 401st year, Monmouth School, one of the UK's leading independent boarding and day schools, provides outstanding opportunities for boys. Set in beautiful countryside on the border of Wales and England, the School is nationally renowned for its sporting and musical achievements as well as its high academic standards.
Extra-curricular activities allow boys to excel not just academically, but also in the arts, sport and adventurous, character-building pursuits. Frequently placed in the top 10 boarding schools for boys based on A level results, the School gained an excellent in every category in its recent ESTYN inspection, the first independent school in Wales to achieve this under the new framework.
Last year, Monmouth School enjoyed its second best recorded A* grades at A level at 16.3%. Many students won their first choice places at university, with 10 heading to Oxford or Cambridge to fulfil their dreams. The School's greatest strength is its proven ability to bring the best out of every boy in a wide range of subjects and activities.
Monmouth is unusual in that it offers all the advantages of single sex education with close links with its sister school, HMSG, enabling joint boarders' activities, joint drama, trips and a coordinated sixth form timetable delivering 30 A level subjects.
The School is nationally renowned for its sporting and musical achievements as well as its sterling academic standards. Sport plays a central role in school life, both for boys who excel in Monmouth's wide range of sports and for those who are less gifted but no less enthusiastic. The School has a full fixtures list against some of the UK's top sporting schools. The staff includes former county cricketers and rugby union internationals. The boys are provided with the best in coaching and are able to take full advantage both of Monmouth's facilities and its exceptional location at the heart of the Wye Valley. Old Boys include former Olympians and international sportsmen who have made their mark in cricket, cycling, rowing, rugby and horse riding.
Music is also key to the development of boys of Monmouth School. Around half of pupils take lessons on a musical instrument (around 320 individual lessons are taught each week). Many boys study to an advanced level – each year a number of them achieve grade eight by the time they are 14.
Monmouth School is justifiably proud of its boarding, having been voted Archant's Best British Boarding School 2011 (in a vote by parents). Over 30% of pupils are boarders, of which 65% are British, and boarders play an integral part of the School community. The aim is to ensure that everyone feels welcome and supported and that all boys have an opportunity to contribute to boarding life.
Voted eighth best place to live in the UK by The Sunday Times, Monmouth is a very pretty Georgian market town surrounded by open countryside and rolling hills, but with an array of shops, cafes, a cinema and theatres.
At the beginning and end of each term, accompanied coach, minibus and taxi transport is provided to and from Heathrow airport as well as Birmingham and Bristol airports upon request.
KitebrookCombining academic rigour, individual development and freedom of thought, Kitebrook Preparatory School provides an outstanding all-round education. Set in the heart of the Cotswolds, boys and girls make dens, climb trees and enjoy being children.
